BAGUIO CITY
A 78-year-old grandfather died in a fire that gutted an entertainment hub along Legarda Road on Feb. 3, 2025. Mayor Benjamin Magalong condoled with the family as he urged residents to step up fire safety practices in their homes and businesses. The Baguio City Fire Station under F Supt. Marisol Odiver has recorded a total of seven fire incidents as of Feb. 5, 2025, four of which happened last January and three this month.
All of the incidents were structural in nature, according to station public information officer SFO 1 Lloyd Ashley
Furigay. The Legarda Road fire affected one family with seven members and three house sharers, according to City
Social Welfare and Development Officer Liza Bulayungan. The wife of the deceased was admitted to the hospital
due to suffocation. Bulayungan said the city rushed to the aid of the victims with financial assistance of P55,000, hygiene and family kits and food packs and psychological first aid.
Another fire hit a general merchandise building that was totally damaged at Miami St. Carantes Cpd. Camp 7 last Feb. 4. The owner was injured while six renters lost their personal belongings. An eatery adjacent to the damaged house was also affected Bulayungan said the victims were provided psychological and medical first aid, financial assistance and emergency shelter assistance to the affected establishment owner and financial assistance to the renters and eatery owner aside from the usual relief items.
