12 BOATS SHINE IN FLUVIAL PARADE ON BURNHAM LAKE IN BAGUIO

Twelve boats embellished with their designs participated in the 2nd Fluvial Parade competition at Burnham Lake, part of the activities of Panagbenga Festival 2023 in the Summer Capital last February 19. The 12 contestants have their own titles associated with the design of their boat, which
was witnessed by the throngs of tourists and residents, strolling on Sunday in Burnham Park.

The competition started with a parade of colors performed by the Saint Louis Marching Band on a boat. The festivities were attended by Mayor Benjamin Magalong, Jovi Ganongan, regional director of the Department of Tourism Cordillera; Anthony de Leon, Panagbenga Festival executive committee and other officials. Judges in the competition were multi-awarded artist and director Ferdie Balanag, Charmaine Joy de Guzman and Rhodora Ngolob, vice president for administration and academic services of the University of Cordilleras.

After 12 participants were paraded, the Golden Sea Horse boat No.2, with “Ibong Adarna” design, won 3rd prize, winning P10,000 cash. Second place was the Pontoon Boat with the title “The Pontoon Masquerade”, which symbolizes the fun and colorful Mardi Gras festivities. It won P15,000. The Blue boat was the champion with the title “Idianale World” which symbolizes
the Goddess of good labor and good deeds and a cash prize of P20,000. The fluvial floats parade became a project of the Department of Tourism-Cordillera in partnership with the city government and Baguio Flower Festival Foundation, Inc., which was first performed in 2022.
