129 FARMERS BENEFIT FROM PGLU’S COMMUNITY-BASE MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAM

SAN GABRIEL, La Union

A total of 129 farmers from Brgy. Amontoc, San Gabriel benefited from the 5th Community-Based Mental Health Awareness Program (CBMHAP) launched by the La Union Multi-Sectoral Governance Council. The initiative is part of the Provincial Government of La Union’s strategy to strengthen agriculture sector’s primary and mental healthcare, empower their communities, and address social challenges they face as residents of geographically
isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA) in the province.

The program was implemented with the support and La Union PROBINSYANihan of LGU San Gabriel led by Mayor Lany Carbonell, Provincial Health Office, the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, Inner Wheel Club of San Fernando La Union North, and Zonta Club of San Fernando La Union. In addition to mental health education, the CBMHAP tackled issues such as teenage pregnancy and provided farmers with fruit-bearing seedlings and vegetable seeds to encourage sustainable farming practices.

Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David expressed her support for the program, emphasizing the importance of caring for the mental well-being of farmers. “This activity prioritizes the mental health of our farmers, who are key players in achieving our vision of making La Union the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon,” she said.
Through CBMHAP, La Union continues to empower rural and GIDA communities by integrating mental health into local development initiatives and ensuring essential resources reach those in need.
