20 vie for Ms. Baguio 2021 title

Twenty candidates seek the crown of Ms. Baguio and who will be known on September 30. The 20 include a champion declaimer and recent nursing school graduate, some veteran pageant participants and winners, incoming college students, some artists and singers, and a school of medicine graduate, who failed to join Saturday’s press presentation due to being quarantined, are just some of the hopefuls for the Ms. Baguio 2021 title.
“I am a champion declaimer in college,” admitted Dean Dianne Balogal, a nursing graduate who loves also to write and play musical instruments and at five foot eight inches, may just become one of the favorites in the annual search after a year of absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Camp 7 resident’s easily understood answers delivered in perfect grammar and tone easily captured the hearts of local journalists during the event at the Laafayette Hotel on Saturday jumpstarting the search which will have its swimwear competition on September 18 at the Baguio Country Club.
Not to be outdone was candidate 7 Marikit Manaois of Saint Joseph Village, a singer, writer and artist and winner of several beauty pageants.
“I joined the pageant in order to voice out my advocacy which is the ‘Hawak Kamay Piso Mo, Awit Ko’ Movement, It stands for Bayanihan, which each of us is in dire need of,” Manaois said in introducing herself during the press presentation.
Manaois, a financial adviser, who won Miss Pangasinan Kalikasan and Miss Sison both in 2017 and Miss JCI Pangasinan in 2018, said that her advocacy seeks donation to help in Baguio’s rehabilitation act and for the Helping Hands Foundation.
The latter helps indigent children with ailments, many with cancer. Mirador – Dominican barangay resident Ghenesis Latugat hopes to better her fourth runner-up finish in the 2016 edition. The fourth year BS Architecture student is also the Miss Cordillera Festival queen in 2016 and the Miss PRISAA (Private School Athletic Association) National Finals in 2018 believes to be “kind and always believe in yourself.”
The recently crowned Miss Queen of Hearts International Irene de Guzman hopes to add the Miss Baguio crown to her trophy room which includes the titles of Miss Jewel of Luna 2018, Mutia ti Santol 2019, among others.
An athlete, who won a bronze medal in the PRISAA national finals in 2018, when Latugat was crowned queen of the event, has a degree in Physical Education.
Aerianne Mencio, also of Camp 7, wants the crown to go along with her gold medals in the 2018 and 2019 Palarong Pambansa gold and 2019 Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association bronze medal winner.
Mencio, a nursing graduate, believes: “Champions are not the people who never fail, but are the people who never quit.”
Candidate 5 Elisha Faith Udarbe was Ms Badoc (Ilocos Norte) 2019 and was runner up Miss Slika Ilocandia and Saniata ti Ilocandia last year, third runner-up in the 2019 Miss Ilocos Norte and fourth runner-up in the Miss Candon pageant in 2019.
Heavenly Lawingan, candidate 6 of Malgicong Village, Pinsao was Miss Eco Elegant 2019. Candidate 10 Xiannia Luassane Trinidad was fourth runner up in the Miss Baguio 2018. Counted among the academic achievers are: candidates 15, Pamela Suyom of Wast Quirino Hill, a second year international tourism student; number 16 Genele Khate Caoile, a first year criminology student who was a consistent honor student in elementary and high school who competed in the National Press Conference, a journalism competition for students and former Miss Pines City National High School; and, number 4 Trisha Joyce Dacanay of Quirino Hill who is in digital arts; candidate 3 and BS Developmental Communication student Mariane Lura.
Computer Science alum Chaseyrelle Know-well Sison is a former member of the Saint Louis University dance troupe who took part in the Korea Folk Arts Biennial Festival in 2019 in Jinju, South Korea and had experiences as a television actress.
MRR Queen of Peace resident Janine Rose Carpio is one of the recently senior high graduates who is a volleyball player and former athlete of the year awardee.
Incoming tourism student Jona M. dela Cruz is also the pageant’s youngest contestant. Cassandra Gresh, a graduate of medicine this year, failed to attend the press presentation last Saturday since she was under quarantine.
The down-scaled pageant in virtual format under the Baguio Tourism and Special Events Office with the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation – Baguio and Baguio Weddings and Suppliers Organization as supporting partners impose safety protocols during the staging of the month long activity.
Among these are: mandatory antigen tests for all candidates and production crew every two weeks, temperature check and registration for every assembly or activity; restricted access for handlers, companions and the public in exclusive areas, assemblies and activities; and, no public viewing in all activities, major activities will be livestreamed
