37 kasapi ng NPA at supporters, sumuko sa Cordillera

LUNGSOD NG BAGUIO – Sumuko ang kabuuang 37 gerilya at supporters ng komunistang New People’s Army (NPA) sa pangkat ng gobyerno sa Ifugao at Mountain Province noong unang linggo ng Agosto, sa ulat ng mga otoridad noong Agosto 8.
Labing-apat sa kanila ay full-fledged militia ng bayan (MB) na NPA at anim na supporters ang lumutang sa Barangay Namal, Asipulo, Ifugao. Ang MB ay tumutukoy sa mga indibidwal na nadoktrinahan at maaaring direktang sangkot o hindi sa armadong pakikibaka at nagbibigay ng mass support sa kilusan.
Anim na karagdagang MBs at 11 na local supporters mula sa mga barangay ng Tinoc ang sumuko rin noong Agosto 7, kung kaya may kabuuang 37 ang sumuko sa halos isang linggo.
Ang unang batch ay nagsuko ng M-16 rifle sa mga sundalo ng pamahalaan.
Sumuko ang mga gerilya nang magsagawa ng peace caravans ang mga sundalo ng pamahalaan na nakapuwesto sa Cordillera.
“The CNT-MB (Communist NPA Terrorist Militia ng Bayan) and their supporters voluntarily surrendered to our teams facilitating the Community Support Program (CSP), after having dialogue with the community about the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) in the said towns,” ayon kay Capt. Jefferson Somera, chief of the Philippine Army’s 5th Infantry Division Public Affairs Office sa binanggit ni 54th Infantry Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Narciso Nabulneg Jr. noong Agosto 8.
Nag-ooperate ang 54th IB sa mga probinsiya ng Ifugao, Mountain Province, Benguet, at Baguio.
“These personalities were long-time supporters of the enemy that played a vital role in the survival of the CNT group, and by having them on our side we can now paralyze the enemies’ activities in their traditional abode. We will soon reach the desired peace and development in this part of the country,” ayon kay Somera.
Nagkaroon din ng oath of allegiance sa gobyerno ang mga sumuko at tinuligsa nila ang dating grupo sa harap ng kanilang pamilya, kaibigan, at ng mga nahalal na local officials sa maikling programa na ginanap na peace caravan sa Sagada, Mountain Province.
Sinaksihan din ang nasabing kaganapan ng mga locals, tribal elders, kabataan, at staff ng Philippine National Police at ng 54th Infantry Battalion.
“The attendees were holding placards declaring that the people of Sagada are peace loving people,” ayon kay Somera.
Ang peace caravans, aniya, ay naglalayong magbigay ng iba’t ibang serbisyo ng pamahalaan sa komunidad, lalo na sa malalayong lugar.
Kasama sa peace caravans ang mga tauhan mula sa Department of Public Works and Highway, na kinuha ang pagkakataon upang bisitahin ang mga lugar upang magsagawa ng survey sa iba’t ibang infrastructure projects; mga tauhan ng Municipal Social Work Office na namigay ng mga food packages; mga tauhan mula sa Santiago City Seventh Day Adventist Hospital na nagsagawa ng medical outreach activity; Philippine Red Cross, at mula sa Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office ng Ifugao.
Ang Bureau of Fire Protection at ang PNP ay nagsagawa rin ng information drive.
Ayon kay Major Gen. Perfecto Rimando Jr., commander ng 5ID, ang mga team sa ilalim ng  Community Support Program (CSP) ng 54IB ay magpapatuloy na magtrabaho nang maigi upang kumbinsihin ang mga sumisimpatiyang tao sa NPA na bumalik sa batas.
“Truly, if we put premium on the rights and welfare of our ‘kababayans’ in our activities, our jobs become easy,” ani Rimando. “These former CNT supporters have seen the sincerity of our soldiers that is why they surrendered. If we continue to become professional in our dealing with the locals, we will achieve the desired peace the soonest possible time.”
Sa localized peace talk, ani Rimando: “As we express our support for the localized peace talks, we will unrelentingly pursue the enemies of the Filipino People — the CNT — until they voluntarily surrender or the hands of justice will be served to them.”
