39 held for illegal gambling during total lockdown in Cordillera

CAMP MAJOR BADO DANGWA, La Trinidad Benguet: Despite the implementation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in relation to the COVID-19 scare, 39 individuals were caught while in the act of engaging in gambling activities region wide.

Of the 39 persons arrested, 18 were apprehended for cockfighting, 10 held for playing card games, 7 nabbed for playing bingo, and 4 persons for playing mahjong from March 17 to April 9.

Along with their arrest, cash money amounting to Php2,008.00, 18 fighting cocks, assorted playing cards and mahjong, and other gambling paraphernalia was seized and confiscated by the police during their operation.

For the card games, following were caught by Baguio City Police Office operatives while playing card games in Km.4 Asin Road, Baguio City in the afternoon of April 6, 2020: Rey Humilan Abluyen; Jhonzel Dag-oh Elieta; Johnson Cabbigat Dulnuan; Garry Ibat Guintican; and Eric Intungnin Dagiw-a, all of legal ages and residents of the said place while another group of bettors namely: Walter Palonga Dayao; Patrick Conge Mangawa; Jasper Conge Balusdan; Marcial Cawi Bolduken; Marvin Cayawen y Lawad; and Christian Decina Bayao ,all of legal ages were held in West Tapao, Quirino Hill, in the afternoon of April 5, 2020.

Evidence confiscated were ± 1,020.00 bet money and assorted bingo cards. Moreover, following cockfighters were arrested on April 5, 2020 in Tuba, Benguet: Marcelo Pa-ang Holman; James Cabangbang Fernandez; Joel Frigillana Aquino; and Jerbi Placido Fernandez, while another group of individuals involved in cockfighting identified as: Arnel Dusag Liw-agan; Jerry Daligdig Banggawan; Raymart Dapliyan Busacay; Dominic Palangya Lunis; and Renato Dela Cruz were nabbed in Sitio Lytok Brgy. Pakawit, Pinukpuk, Kalinga. Confiscated and seized from their possessions were one (1) dead rooster, 11 fighting cocks, one (1) gaff cover, three (3) bottles of liquor, shot glass, one (1) cup, and one (1) pitcher.

PROCOR PNP is appealing to the public to stop their illegal activities and stay home so as not to risk their lives and that of the lives of others from the COVID 19. “For those who will continue to engage in illegal gambling and cockfighting activities, we will make sure that you will be put behind bars as multiple cases will be filed against you” says Gen Pagkalinawan.
