44% DECREASE IN HOLY WEEK INDEX CRIMES RECORDED IN REGION 1

CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO

Brig.Gen. John Chua, regional director of Police Regional Office 1 reported an average decrease of 44% in the region’s index crimes during the observance of Holy Week 2023. Index crimes refer to crimes against persons and property. This includes the PNP’s ‘8 focus crimes’, Murder, Homicide,
Physical Injury, Rape, Robbery, Theft, Motorcycle and Motor vehicle Carnapping. Based on the report, from April 3 to 9, 2023, 9 incidents were recorded as compared to the previous observance of Holy Week from April 11 to 17, 2022 with 16 incidents.

On drowning incidents, 14 were recorded (11 in Pangasinan, 2 in La Union and 1 in Ilocos Norte).
This is 30 percent lesser than the drowning incidents recorded in the same period of Holy Week last year with 20 drowning incidents. On Road Crash Incidents, 70 incidents were recorded
reflecting an average decrease of 14% as compared to the previous year with 81 road crash incidents. Chua said the decrease in these incidents is attributed to the stern implementation of the
PNP’s ‘Ligtas SUMVAC’ and the massive information campaign and preventive measures conducted by all police stations and units in the region.

“We have maximized the deployment of our personnel in Police Assistance Desks and all places of convergence such as public terminals, churches and tourist destinations to ensure the safety and security of everyone. Mas pinaigting din natin ang pagbibigay ng kaukulang paalala sa ating mga
kababayan at mga bisita,” Chua said. Police Regional Office will continue the implementation of
its IMPLAN “Ligtas SUMVAC’ until May 31, 2023, to ensure the peaceful celebration of other Holidays and activities ahead including Labor Day and Flores de Mayo.
