49TH NUTRITION MONTH PROGRAM ENDS WITH SERVICE AWARDS

BAGUIO CITY

After more than a month of barangay- based nutrition activities, the 49th nutrition month culminating and service awards program went on last Friday morning, August 4, at the Pedro Dumol Hall, BENECO, South Drive. At least three hundred members of the community, nutrition workers and service awardees, and barangay officials braved the intermittent rain and winds, and attended the half-day event which bannered the theme, “Healthy Diet: Gawing Affordable for All.”

Mayor Benjamin Magalong, represented by Executive Assistant Vic Jimenez expressed gratitude to the hardworking nutrition workers, with assurance of citywide support for all the programs; for the children, young and matured citizens, lactating mothers and persons with disabilities (PWD), and the elderly. Committee chair on sanitation, health, environmental and ecological concerns, Councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda offered tips on cooking simple dishes using easy-to-find ingredients.

Health Services Office (HSO) Nutrition Division Community Development Assistant Lealyn Catiyan
spoke of the honors for the workers who dedicated work days and more hours than what is allotted and expected of them. She also thanked their families who shared concern of other residents’ health, nutrition and well-being. Words of gratitude were also accorded to Barangay officials who supported all activities towards better community nutrition. Catiyan gave the rationale for the outstanding barangay nutrition scholar, the best performing barangay nutrition committee, service and other awards.

Their efforts all redound to healthier, productive, improved and sustained quality of life for the people of Baguio, she said. Awarded as Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) is Joemy Duldulao from Middle Quezon Hill. The finalists are Dyna Solis of Dominican-Mirador, Raquel Perez of Upper Quezon hill, and Baby Ruth Entac of SLU-SVP barangay. For the best performing barangay nutrition committee, Dominican-Mirador led by Punong Barangay Remedios Laigo, topped the list. Lourdes Proper with PB Rowena Gelisanga is second, and Abanano-Zandueta-ChugumKayang-Otek (AZCKO) led by PB Jefferson Cheng is third place.

Fifteen finalist barangays for said category are: Atok Trail, represented by PB Federico Codley; Balsigan, PB Dolores Mangusan; Brookside, PB James Doligas; City Camp Proper, PB Jaime Bustarde; Dizon-Manzanillo, PB George Banayos; East Bayan Park, PB Alexander Dawa; Loakan
Liwanag, PB Casimiro Castillo; Lucnab, PB Jerry Esteban; Middle Quezon Hill, PB Editha Lina Ibarra; Middle Quirino Hill, PB Ignacio Gallente; Pucsusan, PB Ricardo Mendoza; Salud Mitra, PB Nida Galace; SLU-SVP, PB Heraldo Lamaton; Upper Quezon Hill, PB Dinah Campos, and Victoria Village, PB Ariel Reyes.

Members of the City Nutrition Evaluation Team (CNET) that evaluated the best performing barangay nutrition committee and the outstanding BNS are Carol Gano of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Bernadette Brillantes of the City Planning, Development and Sustainability Office (CPDSO), Nurse Cynthia Cadawan of the Department of Education (Dep-Ed), Sr. Agriculturist Marceline Tabelin of the City Veterinary and Agriculture Office (CVAO),
Dennis Rulloda of the Special Services Division, City Mayors Office (SSD-CMO), Dr. Judith Tacudog representing the Philippine Dental Association (PDA), Day care worker Perla Rimalos of the City Social Work and Development Office (CSWDO), and Lealyn Catiyan.

For the service awards, there are twelve (12) five-year honorees: Monaliza Banasan of Greenwater Village; Annabelle Cayme of New Lucban, Jenny Coga-ay of East Quirino Hill; Marta Conchao of
Bakakeng Norte; Cristine Cortez of Pucsusan; Corazon Cuadla of Lower Dagsian; Melody Galletes of Padre Burgos; Marites Kawig of Irisan; Ofelia Ogad of Upper Rock Quarry; Juliana Siano of East Quirino Hill; Julie Tiago of Dontogan; and Erica Jane Vinluan of San Antonio Village. The eight 10-year service award recipients are: Lorena Abellera of Honeymoon, Juning Ayangdan of LoakanApugan, Josephine Demot of Bakakeng Norte, Gina Rose Lacatango of Pinget, Demetria
Padadac of Kias, Charlie Ramos of Palma Urbano, Lailani Santos of Upper QM, and Garisa Mendoza of East Bayan Park.

There are six 15-year service recipients: Louela Mina of Irisan, Dyna Solis of Dominican-Mirador, Minda Soriano of San Antonio Village, Jeanette Graal Suliva of Pinsao Pilot Project, Juliet Wakit of
West Quirino Hill, and Jessica Gabatino of Dizon-Manzanillo barangay. Maria Corazon Consolacion Alterado and Rosalina Caya-os were also awardees as they served 10 years as Baguio City Nutrition Committee (BCNC) secretariat. Other awards were given for the poster making and cooking contests.
