More than 40 indigent patients of the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center were the
recipients of cash donations by the all Baguio boys last Tuesday morning. Baguio Apaches chief
Jonathan Vergara led at least a dozen of his brothers including past chiefs in doling out PHP2,500 to each of the patients chosen by hospital staff and representatives of the Office of City Social Welfare Development.
“This is our (Apaches’) way of showing we care for our community especially those who have less,” said Vargara. At least 20 pediatric patients received cash assistance from the organization founded in 1939 by sons of Baguio pioneers. Ten of the 11 oncology patients received the cash dole out with one of them sadly expiring earlier that day. The last batch of 20 were outpatient pediatric patients.
Actually 51 were in the list but only 43 were available when the group made their tour at the hospital wit the eight already discharged said Vergara.
Tricia Meneses, nursing supervisor of the pediatric department, said it was a fulfilling experience as she became the guide for the Apaches from the Flavier wing where her department to the OPD at the other wing where the last 20 patients were located. “We chose them because we believe that they need it so we decided to give now,” said Vergara. “It’s really heart breaking seeing the patients but happy to be able to help,” said Vergara. The funds came from the 11th Baguio Apaches Annual Golf Tournament held last April 1 where Vergara pledged to give most to indigent patients.
