60 couples join free mass wedding in Nueva Vizcaya town

At least 60 couples from various villages in this town participated in a mass wedding sponsored by local officials in a bid to legalize their marriage vows during the 100 years centennial celebration at 10a.m., June 26, at the municipal gym here.
Mayor Lusita L. Tan said that the municipal government sponsored the mass wedding to benefit the unwed couples living together and could not afford to finance the expenses on wedding rites.
The local government unit provided the food, wedding rings, cakes, bed sheet and bouquets during the wedding, as one way of helping couples to make their living together legal under the law, Tan said.
“We appreciate your willingness to come in this mass wedding and valuing the solemnity of marriage,” Tan added.
Tan advised the couples to be responsible husband and wife and parents to their children, as well as good and law-abiding citizens in the town.
The oldest couple to wed were Santiago Transi, 62 years old of Brgy. Anayo and Dona Costales, 17 years old of Brgy. Calitlitan in this town.
Meanwhile, Vice Mayor Ruben Sayo said this program is intended to provide legal documents to unwed couples in their villages due to their inability to shoulder the financial requirements of having a wedding ceremony.
He noted that the registrar is asking for certificate of marriage when parents register their children.
The 60 couples expressed their gratitude to Mayor Tan after the ceremony.
