Abra declares state of calamity

BAGUIO CITY (July 28, 2022) — Abra province, perhaps the hardest hit among northern provinces during Wednesday morning’s strong tremblor, was declared under a state of calamity.
Tayum, Abra was the epicenter (7.3 Magnitude) of Wednesday’s jolt that affected most of northern provinces including Metro Manila. 
The Sangunniang Panlalawigan via a resolution placed the entire province under a state of calamity citing the severe damage of Wednesday’s tremblor to private and government properties, and affected about 80 percent of the population.
At least four northern towns in the province— Tubo, Daguioman, Bucloc and Lacub — remains isolated from the capital-Bangued because of numerous landslides along its road systems.
Three more upland towns— Malibcong, Manabo, Pidigan and Tineg also suffered landslides along its roads and mountainside locations.
At least two major bridges— Manabo in Manabo town and Calaba in Bangued, the province’s capital — were damaged as well as more than 20 government installations were reportedly damaged because of the jolt.
Abra’s disaster management council also said government work and classes in the entire province remains suspended until Friday (July 29).  
Work and classes will resume on Monday, August 1, 2022.
Abra Governor Dominic Valera has approved the state of calamity declaration which paves way for local officials to use calamity funds for immediate aid and rehabilitation efforts and also control prices of basic goods.
Social welfare chief Erwin Tulfo immediately flew to Abra province on Wednesday noon to oversee government aid and asssistance operations.
Tulfo assured there is a P6M available funds from the DSWD for the province while over 2,000 family food packs had been readied for distribution for the earthquake victims.

An additional 5,000 more food packs were to arrive in the province, he added.
Help from various local government units, national government agencies and private groups have began to pour in into the province early Thursday morning.
