It’s all set for the 74th Januarius Fil-Am Golf Invitational Tournament on November 26 until December 14, Fil-Am executive committee co-chair Anthony de Leon and Jude Eustaquio announced recently. In a presscon at the Par 7
of the Baguio Country Club, the two said that more than 1,400 players from 260 teams from all over the country, the
United States and the Pacific Rim are expected to see action in the world’s biggest and oldest amateur golf
competition. On the eve of its diamond anniversary, the two said that more players are expected to see action in the senior and regular divisions.
Expect Manila Southwoods to be defending its title anew in the Fil and Am divisions of the Regular competitions.
Southwoods will parade a strong squad composed of Shin Suzuki, Miko Granada, Jet Hernandez, Enrique Dimayuga
and Zeus Sara as it seeks a record 10th straight title In Regular Fil Championship. Expect Januarius to be coming with its gun all ablaze with Masa Otake teaming up with Terrence Macatangay, Jet Mathay, former pro Ray Sangil
and Ayon Sanchez. Eastridge is also expected to parade a strong squad to give Southwoods a run for its money.
Southwoods has been one of the strongest teams since it started fielding a team in 1997. Many of its alumni have become successful in their professional career including Professional Gollf Association’s Tom Kim. De Leon and Eustaquio said that the senior’s side will be a toss up between Southwoods and Luisita’s also. “The question is who can formulate a way to challenge Southwoods which will try to extend their run to a 10th title,” said Eustaquio. The coming event staking rich hole-in-one including a car and raffle prizes aside from the coveted crown. An ace in a yet to be designated holes are two Toyota Race units — one for the seniors and another for the regular.
