BAGUIO CITY – Yet another young couple, who “took the drug trade into their hearts” and built themselves a tandem, fell Monday afternoon along Suello Village, Bakakeng Central barangay here.
Holy Elyjam Yango, 20, and his live-in partner Rhona Bell Ticuala, 19; both students, sold around P300,000.00 worth of shabu to undercover agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in a sting operation at around 1PM.
Perhaps the biggest shabu haul yet this year in Baguio City, PDEA-Cordillera director Gil Cesario Castro hinted of a heightening drug war in the region, with the successive operations against big-time drug dealers around the highland region.
Only on Saturday night, some over P6M worth of marijuana leaves in brick form were caught from three drug couriers from Cavite at a checkpoint in Bontoc, Mt. Province’s capital town. The trio, even using quarantine passes and travel authority certifications were able to slipped through several checkpoints from their origin to their source in the highlands, though unluckily
The duo, PDEA-Baguio, PDEA-Benguet and Baguio policemen said, tried to sell
five small heat sealed plastic sachets containing shabu that weighed 25 grams and another knot tied plastic sachet of shabu that also weighed 25 grams.
A gram of shabu is now sold at P6,000.00, PDEA said.
Castro, who just took the helm of the PDEA-Cordillera exactly a week ago promised, “we will escalate the drug war and widen our radar to anyone who coddle, finance or protect the drug key players in the region.”***Artemio A. Dumlao***
