BAGUIO, BENGUET ATHLETES SHINE IN CAMBODIA GAMES

Cordillera athletes from Baguio City and Benguet Province fought for flag and country. Sandi Menchi Abahan gave the Summer Capital a gold in the Women’s Team Relay- Obstacle Course Race (OCR). When it comes to combat sports, Baguio and Benguet pride showed no mercy to their
respective opponents. Based city information social page, Emmanuel Cantores and two other Baguio players each captured silver medal. Cantores in the Men’s 60kg Vovinam; Mariane Mariano and Hergie Bacyadan in the Womens 50kg Kun Bokator,and 65kg Vovinam events,respectively.

Ariel Lee Biadno Lampacan from Bokod and Itogon demonstrated impeccable style and captured silver in Bokator Men’s Combat 55kg event in the ongoing 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia. Among the bronze medalists are Jerilun Kingad in the Wimen’s 56kg Vovinam; Estie Cay Liwanen (Mixed Duo Classic) Ju-jitsu; Fekix Dave Cantores in Men’s 67kg Kun Khmer; and Zyra Bon-a in Women’s 51kg Kun Khmer events. Other Benguet athletes who won medals in this biennial meet are Emmanuel Cantores of Sablan who bagged a silver- Men’s 60 kg and Godwin Langbayan of Buguias who got a bronze in Men’s Kun Bokator 70 kg event.

Earlier, Jenelyn Olsim secured a bronze in the Kun Khemer Women’s 54 kg. tussle. Gov. Melchor Diclas through the latter’s social page expressed congratulatory messages to the winning athletes as well as the Philippine Team victors. As of press time, Team Philippines tallied 27-51-65 ( gold silver-bronze) medals and running sixth place in the overall medal standing. For the record, the
Philippines twice won the overall championship in the 2005 and 2019 Manila edition of the games since joining in 1977.
