Baguio City Has Two New COVID19 Cases

BAGUIO CITY (June 1, 2020) – One of the city’s two new Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients revealed her identity to hasten contact tracing schemes to thwart virus transmission in the city.
Ailene Doria, 28, a resident of barangay City Camp Central, bared to Baguio City mayor Benjamin Magalong that she is a returning Baguio worker who came up to the city on May 29 to resume her job as a store manager in one of the establishments here.
She reportedly came from San Fernando, La Union where she stayed in a company-appointed boarding house in San Fernando City, La Union for three days from May 26 to wait for the confirmation of her travel date to Baguio.
But she had stayed in her hometown in Binmaley, Pangasinan for two months since March 16, after her work was suspended when the Enhanced Community Quarantine was declared in Baguio.
She said she complied with the Returning Baguio Residents and Workers process and underwent triage at the St. Vincent gym upon arrival.  She underwent diagnostic x-ray at the triange which showed that she had suspicious pneumonia prompting triage doctors to let her undergo a swab or the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test.
From St. Vincent, she went directly to her boarding house as she was advised to self-quarantine while waiting for the test result.  She said she strictly followed the advice as she was living alone.
Doria’s contacts included her lone travel companion and the driver of the private car which ferried them to Baguio and some acquaintances at the boarding house in San Fernando City.   She did not have much contacts back in Binmaley, Pangasinan as their house is secluded.
While the other new patient had a brush with the law prompting policemen to bring him to the jail on March 28.
Bernard Agbuya, 25 of Apugan, Poliwes tested positive on May 31, was taken by policemen from the Baguio City police station 8 late evening on May 28 after a squabble with neighbors with whom Agbuya and his brother had a drinking spree.
Police said Agbuya’s father tried to pacify the group but was hit by his sons injuring him.  While being brought to the police precinct, the Agbuya brothers hurled verbal abuses against the policemen and barangay officials and even punched one of the officers.
The brothers were charged with direct assault with resistance and disobedience to persons in authority and violation of the liquor ban.
Barangay Poliwes was earlier placed on lockdown starting Saturday after authorities found out it has not been religiously following quarantine rules, while City Camp Central is expected to be ordered on lockdown anytime Monday.
The two new cases prompt Baguio to have four active cases as of June 1, 2020.
Since the outbreak of the COVID19 in the country, Baguio only recorded 34 cases, with only one death.
