BAGUIO CRIME INCIDENTS DROP BY 27.8%

The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) reported that crime incidents in the city during the post-pandemic period in 2022 dropped by around 27.8 percent compared to the pre-pandemic crime
incidents in 2019. Based on BCPO’s accomplishment report, the 1,197 crimes that were recorded by the BCPO in 2022 was 461 crimes lower compared to the 1,658 crimes recorded by the local police force in 2019. On index crimes, the 1,908 crimes in 2022 was 13.35 percent or 294 crimes lower compared to the recorded index crimes in 2019 which was 2,202.

The 3 most prevalent index crimes are theft with 159 incidents in 2022 compared to the 230 incidents in 2019 or a reduction of 71 crimes equivalent to 46.62 percent; physical injuries with only 71 incidents in 2022 compared to the 133 crimes in 2019 or a reduction of 62 incidents equivalent to 46.62 percent and rape with only 45 incidents in 2022 compared to the 65 crimes in 2019 or a reduction of 20 incidents or 30.77 percent.

In terms of non-index crime volume, the BCPO recorded some 590 incidents in 2022 compared to the 793 crimes in 2019 or a reduction of 203 incidents equivalent to 25.60 percent. The highest recorded non-index crime was violation of the pertinent provisions of Republic Act (RA) 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act with 186 crimes in 2022 compared to the 102 crimes in 2019 or a significant increase of 84 crimes which is equivalent to 45 percent increase.

The said incidents was followed by violation of RA 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act of 2004 with 67 incidents in 2022 compared to the 177 cases in 2019 or a reduction of
107 crimes or 61.49 percent. Rounding up the 3 top non-index crimes was violation of RA 7610 or the Anti-Child Abuse Law with 42 incidents in 2022 compared to the 58 cases in 2019 or a reduction of 16 crimes equivalent to 27.59 percent.

On the other hand, traffic incidents during the post- pandemic period increased by 10.29 percent where there were some 997 cases in 2022 compared to the only 904 cases in 2019 or a reduction of 93 crimes. The BCPO reported that 98.48 percent of the crimes were cleared in 2022 compared to the 87.17 incidents that were cleared in 2019. Moreover, 97.99 percent of the crimes were solved in 2022 compared to the 86.50 percent crime solution efficiency in 2019.
