Baguio Muslim community expresses support to peace and order campaign

BAGUIO CITY – Members of the Muslim community here on Sunday, August 11, 2019 pledged support to the government’s efforts in maintaining peace and order in the city and condemned any possible act of terrorism in connection with a terrorism threat earlier reported targeting “crusader churches”.

The Muslim community led by Imam Samsodin Monib along with Imam Joel Omar and Khalid Salahudin Abdullah stood at the entrance of the Roman Catholic cathedral while mass was going on to show unity with Christians in their campaign for peace and solidarity.

Monib also assured the Muslim community’s support as he spoke before churchgoers. He said they value the importance of law and order and that they are in unity with Christians against lawless elements or terrorists.

The Muslims also distributed roses to churchgoers as a gesture of their sincere intentions. In a conversation with Khalid Salahudin Abdullah, he said, “We are extending our hands for peace and solidarity.

We’re here to secure our brother Christians while having their mass to show that we mean peace, not terrorism”. Meanwhile, Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong thanked the Muslim community for their commitment to support the city’s peace and order campaign, and appreciated the efforts of both the Muslims and Christians in the city for maintaining the good relationship that both sides had established over the years.

The mayor called on residents to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to the police. The Baguio City Police Office led by city director Allen Rae F. Co assured full security alert and provided preventive measures while addressing the reported threat.

Police maintained that churches all over the city were monitored against any untoward incidents. No related incident was reported.
