Barangay Chairwoman In Cagayan Valley Caught Gambling

BAGUIO CITY(December 23, 2020)-  Pamplona, Cagayan policemen on Tuesday afternoon caught a group of gamblers including a barangay chairwoman.

Barangay Cabaggan chief Crisanta Leaño , 68; farmer Leonardo Salvador, 53, and Silvester Aquitania, 46,  were tipped off playing “tong-its” at a wake of a resident, prompting operatives to head to the area.

But sensing the incoming operatives, the village chairwoman and the two others tried to flee on foot but policemen were able to catch up on them, said Cagayan Valley police director Brig. Gen. Crizaldo Nieves.

A set of playing cards and bet money in different denomination amounting to Four-hundred Eighty-five (485.00) pesos were seized and the village chief together with the two were taken to the Pamplona police station for booking.

After which, they were brought to PNP Pamplona for documentation and filing of appropriate charges to the said suspects.

While an 18-year old drug trader was also trapped by policemen in barangay Sampaguita, Solana town.

The teenage boy, who is from Barangay Natappian East, Solana was caught at Hakysia Hotel after a government agent bought marijuana from him.

A packed folded bond paper containing dried marijuana leaves & fruiting tops, another heat-sealed sachet of dried marijuana leaves and fruiting tops were seized from the boy including the buy-bust money and a caliber 38 revolver with serial number 29873 loaded with 3 bullets.

Aside from the drugs case,  the boy will also be facing illegal possession of firearms and ammunitions,  added Brig. Gen. Nieves.
