BARANGAY SAGPAT CONDUCTS BDRRMC TRAINING

A sum of 19 individuals participated during the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee Planning of Barangay Sagpat, Kibungan, Benguet, on March 7-9,2023 at Barangay Sagpat Multipurpose Hall facilitated by the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. The BDRRMC is a committee of the Barangay Development Council leading
the implementation of programs and activities within the barangay in order to prevent or mitigate the effects of impending emergencies and disasters on the residents, households and livelihoods.

It is comprised of members coming from various sectors ,such as education, religious organizations and representative from different organizations within the barangay. The committee is led by the Punong Barangay as chairperson. The BDRRMC Planning was attended by members of the barangay council headed by Punong Barangay Alfredo Ampal Jr., Rural Health Midwife Rowe-lyn Cayat, Human Resource for Health Nurse Rachel L. Baniqued, Pastor Edren Vicente,representative
from the religious organization and 4 Barangay Health Workers namely; Marsha Ananayo, Yolanda Aligang, Paz Vicente and Janeth Caya-os.

The said planning activity was facilitated by Ms. Emma Dayso Eliw, LDRRMO and her staffs Ms.
Elibeth Aludos, Mr. Winor Gammat and Mr. Jimrey Algen. The formulated plan was a 3-year plan to be implemented from 2024 to 2026. Meanwhile, the planning activity was funded through 2023 Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund amounting to P26,000.00. The BDRRMC had identified three major calamities commonly experienced which include: strong tropical cyclone, monsoon rain and rain induced landslide.

Further, they identified different strategies on how to prevent and managed such conditions using the four thematic areas. Thematic area number 1 is disaster prevention and mitigation. It focuses on how to avoid hazard and mitigate their potential impacts by reducing vulnerability and exposure and enhancing capacities of the community. On the other hand, thematic area number two is disaster preparedness which aims to establish and strengthen capacities of communities to anticipate, cope and recover from negative impacts of emergency and untoward incidents occurrence and disasters.

Meanwhile, the third thematic area is disaster response. It is to provide life preservation and meet the basic subsistence needs of affected population based on acceptance standards during or immediately after a disaster. Lastly, the fourth thematic area is disaster rehabilitation and recovery. It restores and improve facilities livelihood and living conditions and organizational capacities of
affected communities and reduce disaster risks in accordance with the “build back better” principle.
