Barangay watchman shot several times in Ilocos Sur

BAGUIO CITY(July 5, 2021)— A barangay watchman was killed instantly after being shot on his face several times at around 12:30AM on Sunday in Barangay Sapriana, Sinait, Ilocos Sur.
The victim was identified as Jenny Inay Sarte, male, 55, from Barangay Sapriana. He was on duty when he was killed.
Based from the investigation of the Sinait town police, Sarte was sleeping on his hammock in the barangay outpost when an unidentified masked gunman appeared and shot him several times on his face and different parts of his body.
Sarte’s fellow village watchmen were not able to react immediately and apprehend the suspect because of fear.
The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds that resulted in his immediate death.
The suspect just walked away from the scene heading towards the North direction.
The police is now conducting deeper investigation on the motive of the killing and the identification of the gunman.
Meanwhile at Candon City, Ilocos Sur, a man was arrested after police found an unlicensed firearm in the compartment of his motorcycle at around 5:00 PM on Saturday in Barangay Tablac.
The rider was identified as Bryan Mina Jimenez, 34 and a resident of Barangay Tablac, Candon City.  According to the police, Jimenez was flagged down along the national highway in Barangay Tablac when the police noticed that he is not wearing a facemask.
The police asked for the rider’s OR/CR so the suspect obliged and opened the compartment of his motorcycle. The police noticed a caliber 38 inside the compartment prompting him to ask Jimenez if he has documents for the firearm.
He was arrested and brought to the Candon police station.
Aside from the citation ticket for not wearing facemask, Jimenez is now facing a criminal charge for violating RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Act.
