Bauang student bags gold in 13th International Exhibition for Young Inventors

BAUANG, LA UNION – Allan Lloyd Lopez, a Grade 12 student in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education of Don Eulogio de Guzman Memorial National High School (DEGMNHS) won a gold medal in artwork category during the 13th International Exhibition for Young Inventors (IEYI), at Aichi Prefecture, Nagoya, Japan with his entry entitled “Future Visions with a Heart: Coexistence of Science and Nature”.
He described his invention as an artwork which is a mixed media acrylic, using watercolor and pastel on paper. Lopez explained that through the lens of imagination, humankind has the ability to see far beyond the present. The resilience of these guiding visions tends to merge and together steer the trajectory of where man is heading.
He added that the mind is fuelled by the information one ingests, painting pictures of the world where man lives in. Both science and forecasting offer a fertile ground for stimulating thoughts about the future while helping man to imagine the steps necessary to get closer or farther from his destination.
His art envisions the future with science and technology and its vital role in preserving nature, improving the life of the human race through research like genetics, deep space exploration and robotics. These will have a big impact in the future according to him.
Lopez was accompanied by his coach, Rodel R. Rimando, a visual arts teacher of the Special Program in the Arts of DEGMNHS.
Other winners who represented the Philippines in the competitions are Eliah Jezar Nebre with his invention “Pineapple-Rator” from Kaunlaran High School, Navotas City, NCR, received a Gold Medal in Food & Agriculture Category. In the International Best Invention Awards under the Green Environment Category, Jimuelle Pascual from Lizan Senior High School, Navotas City, NCR was chosen with his work entitled “Electricae Umbra”; and under the Food & Agriculture Category, Shira Erika Dela Cruz’ invention “Mussel Reaper” of Kaunlaran High School, Navotas City, NCR.
The contest was participated in by 15 countries with 150 entries on July 27-29, 2017.
Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation organized the contest with Aichi Prefecture, City of Nagoya, Aichi Institute of Invention and Innovation as co-organizer supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science & Technology Japan Patent Office, and World Intellectual Property Organization.
