BAGUIO CITY
The Baguio Country Club will officially open its Christmas Village this year this Saturday, October 19, as it looks
forward to another “busy” season at said area until Three Kings next year. “It will be until the first Sunday of January next year,” BCC General Manager Anthony de Leon told media during a press conference at the Village Thursday.
The Club’s Village that was opened to the public last Saturday offers an Alpine village celebrating Christmas as snow turned all trees to white, with a backdrop of the Swiss Alps.
It features four towers that emit “snow” or a foam-like materials. The “Swiss-village” that has white and blue as predominant colors has a central structure called the “ball pit” where kids could play in. It also has a “wish tree” where visitors could write on a piece of cardboard their wish and hang it on the tree. Since its inception in 2011, the Village has adopted several teams that include a “Game of Thrones” like setting two years ago where a dragon was perched atop a tower and could spew “fire”.
It has been a source of pride of de Leon and the BCC family as it has been copied in other areas of the country. But de Leon said that it is the provision of “experience” that emulates the feeling of visiting any European village especially
during the Yule season. De Leon attributes the uniqueness of having the weather that is close to temperate and people could wear jackets, gloves and even bonnets. Unlike in other parts of the country where there could be “snow” but people will still sweat.
Goers, however, should wear “proper” clothes, like a not shorts, no slippers policy. Village goers can now avail of tickets online to the Christmas Village which draws a crowd of some 3,000 during the peak week from December 24 until New Year. De Leon said the Village could raise funds to help their employees and for their community social responsibility including efforts to help the environment.
