To augment the capacity for serving people in need of blood, the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) and the Philippine Red Cross signed a memorandum of agreement institutionalizing the conduct of
mobile blood donation every year at scheduled dates and places convenient to both parties. Under the MOA, the PRC shall take appropriate measures to provide and make available sufficient blood units to its members and beneficiaries upon presentation of necessary documents in case of
emergency or usual blood needs.
BCPO City Director Col.Francisco Bulwayan,Jr. and Ms. Jennelyn Tere, OIC, PRC Baguio Chapter as a representative of PRC’s Secretary General, Dra. Gwendolyn T. Pang signed the MOA in the presence of NAPOLCOM-CAR Regional Director Editha SemillaPuddoc, BCPO Acting Chief, CCADU Maj.Francisco Ben and Chairman of the PRCBaguio Board of Directors, Atty. Carlos Canilao. BCPO in coordination with PRC shall maintain a predetermined stock level of blood at their blood service facilities (BSFs) intended solely for issuance and distribution to its members.
There shall be regular monitoring and reporting on the status of blood stock at the PRCBSF. In the event that the stocked blood units are about to expire, the PRC will have the authority to dispense said blood units to other clients or hospitals for the purpose of humanitarian assistance. A corresponding blood processing fee will be collected from every recipient unless specified coverage by partner under the Blood Samaritan Program.
The MOA took effect on the day and date of its execution and shall continue for one year subject for renewal. A total of 50 qualified individuals from BCPO, CIDG and other civilian volunteers were able to generate more or less 22,500 cc of blood during the bloodletting at the Melvin Jones Grandstand, Baguio City. The extracted blood will be deposited at the PRC Baguio City Chapter which will be used to augment the blood supply and deposit of BCPO.
The BCPO has participated actively in the various medical institutions’ initiatives for voluntary blood donation. This program intends to increase the awareness of every PNP employee to perform a very noble and heroic deed, not only by carrying out their duties well but also by donating blood in order to save the lives of others.
