BENGUET ATHLETES SPOTLIGHT: CARAA TORCH RELAY, OATH OF SPORTSMANSHIP

TRINIDAD, Benguet

The torch is a symbol of the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) that is lit and carried to the games by torch bearers- a tradition which represents the spirit and heralds the start of the games. Actually, the CARAA opening program is set at 4pm on Sunday (Feb.23) at the Benguet Sports Complex here, following the parade of the different delegations ,totalling 6,197. Four silver medalist athletes from Benguet—Jordz Ivan Baccay, Andrei Limplada, Prince Patras and Mansawi Macalangcom , fresh from their success at the 2024 Batang Pinoy will have the honor for the torch relay.

By early evening, Benguet Governor Melchor D. Diclas and Regional Director Estela P. Leon-Carino, DepEd-CAR will lead the lighting of the torch—“Fostering a United and Healthier Cordillera through Sports.” Ayesha Bantasan, ace Benguet athlete and gold medalist in 2024 Batang Pinoy, will lead the Oath of Sportsmanship—a demonstration of commitment to fair play, respect for fellow competitors, and the values that embody true sportsmanship. Some 3,774 student-athletes will see action in 32 sports disciplines with weightlifting making its debut.

And 3,137 medals are stake to include 988 golds. Officials Pledge will be led by Edgar Madlaing RSO/Chief -FTAO, DepED-CAR will have the Pledge of Officiating officials. Early part, Gov. Diclas and Representative Eric Go Yap will deliver their separate welcome messages. Education Secretary Edgardo ‘Sonny” Angara will be the keynote speaker. Other highlight — hoisting of the CARAA Banner to be led by RD Carino, DepEd-CAR together with Assistant Regional Director Ronald B. Castillo, and Elementary and Secondary Schools Division (ESSD) Chief Education Supervisor Georgina C. Ducayso.
