Benguet farmers benefit DA livelihood assistance program

BAGUIO CITY – The Department of Agriculture-Cordillera (DACAR) through its High Value Crops Development (HVCD) program has begun distributing livelihood assistance to farmers in Benguet, the agency reported.

A total of 19,805 local farmers in the said province are beneficiaries of the government’s livelihood assistance program worth Php11.667 million.

Actually, the agency begun distributing the livelihood assistance to initial beneficiaries held on Thursday (Jan.23) at the Cordillera Integrated Agricultural Research Center (CIARC) located at the Baguio Dairy Farm, Sto. Tomas.

The livelihood assistance in the form of agricultural inputs and materials, fertilizer and plastic sheets to be utilized in green houses. Different varieties vegetable seeds were also distributed.

Representatives from the different Office of Municipal Agriculturists (OMAG) in the province received the assistance during the simple distribution program led by DA-CAR officials and Regional Disaster Risk Reduction.

Reportedly, the assistance was a result of the post-damage needs assessment and rehabilitation plan for damaged areas conducted after typhoon Ompong.

Similar package of livelihood assistance will be conducted to the other province in the region.
