Benguet hospitals receive oxygen tanks

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (PIA) – Hospitals in the province have now additional supply of oxygen to sustain their fight against the COVID-19, thanks to the Mobile Oxygen program.
ACT-CIS Representative and Benguet Caretaker Eric Go Yap together with Governor Melchor Diclas and Vice Governor Johnny Waguis
turned over 100 oxygen tanks to the Benguet General Hospital through Chief of Hospital Dr. Maria Imelda Ulep and Provincial Health Officer Dr. Meliarazon Dulay last October 20.
Yap said the donation of oxygen tanks is in response to the management of the COVID-19 in the province. Due to the increasing COVID-19 critical cases in Benguet, hospitals are challenged with the lack of supply of oxygen.
Additional 100 oxygen tanks will also be distributed to the five different district hospitals next week to sustain the supply needed in the municipalities.
Yap said that the 100 oxygen tanks in the BeGH and the 20 oxygen tanks in the district hospitals will be refilled weekly as part of his commitment to support the people of Benguet in this time of the COVID-19 pandemic. He assured that more oxygen tanks will be delivered in the coming weeks.
“Sana itong 100 tanks per week natin ay makabawas kahit papano sa pangangailangan ng BeGH pero mayroon pa tayong na order na 500 na tanke,” Yap said.
While the BeGH alone requires at least 240 oxygen tanks in a day, the additional tanks donated by Cong. Yap will be very helpful for the BeGH, Diclas said.
“The additional oxygen supply donated by the good Congressman will be very helpful particularly for the oxygen needing patients not only in the BeGH but also in the district hospitals which will also be receiving their additional supply of the oxygen tanks.”
With the surge of COVID-19 cases in the province of Benguet in the previous month, hospitals and even temporary treatment and monitoring facilities catering to patients needing oxygen experienced shortage of oxygen supply.
This prompted the provincial government to procure at least 350 oxygen tanks. Diclas said that while COVID-19 cases in the province started to go down, serious to critical COVID-19 cases are still being recorded in the hospitals.
