BLISTT Mayors Sign MOU on feasibility study for waste to energy project

BAGUIO CITY- The mayors of BLISTT (Baguio City, La Trinidad, Itogon, Sablan, Tuba, and Tublay) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Metro Global Holdings Corporation for the conduct of a feasibility study of a proposed BLISTT waste to energy (WTE) facility that the firm plans to put up in the BLISTT area.
Metro Global is eyeing a private property in Sablan, Benguet as the potential site for the WTE project, which will apply an environmentally friendly, state of the art technology that is currently
being used in Europe. With a projected capacity to process and convert 500 metric tons of waste per day to 10 megawatts of electricity, the WTE facility is expected to not only address BLISTT’s garbage woes but will also provide a reliable and cheap source of power for the area.
The MOU was signed on 21 September 2020, at Forest Lodge Hotel. In a succeeding BLISTT council meeting on 1 October 2020, Baguio City Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong, chair of the BLISTT Governing Council, reported that the FS is underway, and will likely be completed by December of this year as scheduled.
The BLISTT is an interlocal cooperation entered into by the member city and municipalities to coordinate their development efforts as contiguous local government units in a contiguous area with common local challenges, and as one of two primary growth centers of the Cordillera Administrative Region. NEDACAR acts as Secretariat to the BLISTT Governing and Development Councils.
