BTC sponsors 1st Master Chef competition

Bauang Tourism Council (BTC) sponsored the first Master Chef Competition and the Search for Best Tasting Halo-Halo during the 3rd day of Kalgaw Festival, April 23, 2018 at Marand Beach Resort, Baccuit Sur, Bauang, La Union.
Mayor Eulogio Clarence Martin P. de Guzman III graced the occasion, which is the 3rd day of Kalgaw Fest.
“I am challenging BTC, being our active partner in the tourism industry, to come out with activities not only in the food area but other activities that will boost the tourism sector. We need your support because the LGU cannot do it alone,” he said.
He asked them to continue innovating and upgrading their facilities because of hectic competition among tourist establishments.
“Entice more tourists to go to your establishments with the good facilities you have and with the excellent service you offer to your visitors,” he added.
Participants in the Master Chef Competition include Coconut Grove Beach Resort, Bali Hai Beach Resort, Rosebowl Restaurant, Marand Resort, Villa Estrella, Kubong Sawali Restaurant, San Luis del Mar Beach Resort and S.R. Paradise Beach Resort.
Winners in the above contest are the following: Jean Trina D. Romero of Coconut Grove was the Champion, followed by Dr. Peter Paul Nang of Rose Bowl, tailing him is Marand Resort’s Chef Alex Andrada.
Chef Steven Pascua of Universal Leaf Philippines and New Iceland Bakery of Agoo, La Union and Chef Glenn Obillo, owner of L and G Food products, coach and trainer of chefs of different resorts and restaurants were the board of judges. They used these criteria; Originality 25%, Preparation and Cooking Techniques 30 %, Taste 30%, Plating and Preparation 15%.
Meanwhile, in the Search for Best Tasting Halo-Halo, Coconut Grove, Bali Hai, Hotel Ariana, Priscilla’s Beach, Mark Teresa and Villa Estrella joined in the contest. Villa Estrella’s Carlito Sabado won first place, followed by Priscilla’s Anette Marie A. Kjaergaard and third was Bali Hai’s Jean Baniqued.
Criteria in judging are the following: Taste 30%, Creativity 15%, Originality 20%, Presentation 15%, Appearance 10%, Sanitation and Hygiene 10%.
BTC officers led by Dr. Peter Nang, Marissa Gualberto of Priscilla’s Beach, Alberto Dy of Hotel Ariana, Graxea Ariola of Coconut Grove, Liza Maganis of Mark Teresa Apartments and Cristy Besanko of Bali Hai were the prime movers in the two competitions. BAUANG PIO / ABN
