CAMP PEPPOT SOON TO BE PARK WITHIN A PARK

The Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club partnered with the Philippine Bamboo Foundation Inc. and Japan Tobacco International to make “Camp Peppot” into an educational park within a park. “Camp Peppot” named
after one of BCBC’s stalwarts Jose Nicolas “Peppot” Ilagan is an 800-square-meter area on the eastern side of Burnham Park. It is where the BCBC holds its annual summer lucky visitors program every Holy Week.

Last month, BCBC President Thomas Picaña signed a memorandum of agreement with the city so the media organization can formally adopt Camp Peppot. Picaña and some of his officials met up with JTI led by Faith Mondejar and Dennis Gadil and the PBF led by its president Edgar Manda, Armando Palijon, and Mike Gomez for their partnership. Mondejar said that they want to help BCBC turn the grove into a learning laboratory for environmentalism.

PBF, which set the bamboo grove in Pacdal, also wants to turn Camp Peppot into a mini-Japanese park. Picaña said that he wants the existing chess tables to be repaired and also set up tables and benches where locals and tourists can read or write in tranquility.
