Capitol gives child dev’t workers get P5K bonus

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Some 439 child development workers here received P5,000 cash assistance from the Provincial Local Government Unit through the Office of Provincial Social Welfare Development today, July 29.
The P 2.195 million OPSWD cash assistance was given to CDWs from the 13 municipalities of this province.
CWDs are among the barangay workers who are given yearly financial assistance under Provincial Order 15-172 which was approved by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan in June of 2015. It was amended through PO 18-230 in 2018 for additional fund to augment the budget appropriated in the former PO.
The amount serves as recognition of the barangay workers’ efforts in community building. OPSWD head Juana Bannawe said that for the previous years, the number of CDWs in the province was divided into two groups, each group would receive the cash assistance on alternate basis.
However, she added, that Gov. Melchor Diclas decided to give all the CDWs the assistance at one time. The OPSWD cash assistance benefited 20 CDWs from Atok (P100,000), 23 from Bakun (P115,000), 37 from Bokod or P185,000, P145,000 for 29 CDWs in Buguias, 45 CDWs got a total of P225,000 in Itogon, P110,000 for 22 CDWs in Kapangan, 29 or a total of P145,000 in Kibungan, 60 CDWs in the capital town of La Trinidad or P300,000, P280,000 for 56 CDWs in Mankayan, P40,000 for eight CDWs in Sablan, P185,000 for 37 CDWs in Tuba and 28 CDWs got a total of P140,000 in Tublay.
In the one-time release of the cash assistance to the CDWs, Diclas said he “hopes to increase the assistance for the CDWs if there is more fund because their job is really challenging and that they play an important role in community building.”
Bannawe said that they had to go to the different municipalities to give the cash assistance “so the CWDs will no longer spend or go through hassle just to come to La Trinidad or to places with Automated Teller Machines (ATMs).”
