BAGUIO, Benguet
The Commission on Elections- Cordillera Administrative Region (Comelec-CAR) reported an increase of 33,354 registered voters as of Nov. 5, compared to the record in the 2022 elections. At the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas briefing here on Tuesday, Comelec-CAR Director Julius Torres said the region now has 1,111,254 in the clean list of voters. There 1,077,900 registered voters during the 2022 polls. Benguet has the biggest voting population with
418,160; followed by Abra, 190,650; Kalinga, 158,958; Ifugao, 137,602; Mountain Province, 122,042; and Apayao, 83,842.
The number of voters from this city is included in Benguet’s total voting population. Comelec has removed from the list those who have not voted for two consecutive national polls. Torres shared that in 2016, the region’s voting population decreased to less than a million, including transient voters in Baguio City and Benguet. “Nakita natin na
bumababa ang (bilang ng) voters natin dahil maraming nagre-register habang estudyante sila dito sa region,
lalo na sa Baguio at Benguet.
(This is) aside from workers na hindi naman permanent residents pero dito sila nagtatrabaho kaya dito na sila nagre-register (We saw a decline in our voting population because we had a lot of students in the region, especially in Baguio and Banguet. This is aside from the workers who are not permanent residents but who register here because they work here),” he said. Torres also disclosed that there were those who voted in Baguio and Benguet only once, and later on transferred to their provinces.
