CHARACTER MADE US MEN!

The Saint Louis Boys High School – , Alumni Homecoming blasts off from ( January 16 to 19, 2025) hosted by Klassic’74, Taraki’75, the junior classes of 1999 and 2000. – , The 17th teed-off with golf. and a Boys High Night – a
Pre-homecoming bonfire at the Hardin of The Camp. On D-day 18th, Mass was at St. Joseph Church and SLUBHS
Grand Alumni Homecoming at Newtown. Taraki 1975 led by President Athan Lacambra, Dody Campos, Richard Valdez, Cris Ramos after a Meet and greet at Baguio Palace on the 16th, had its own on the 19th. A Golden Anniversary Reunion at the Buddy One Events Place hosted by Rolly Bautista.

Once again memories of the big banner plastered in the gym -”Character makes a man” was in the mind of each and every louisian who passed through its august halls. Of course memories of frequent trips to the principals office with the rest of the “naughty” boys of Batch ‘75, Milo Garcia, Manolo Navarro, and many others included. At one time or another, we were blamed no indicted for the following offenses: cutting-classes, hanging out in the canteen and
sticking up wet napkins on the ceiling; drinking gin at Cozy Nook, fighting at the Cathedral grounds bringing playboy-penthouse or gambling inside the classroom with the textbook-pages for lucky nine.

We also flew paper planes while the Pambansang Awit was being sung and everyone would shout at the top of their voice the last line ang mamatay ng dahil sa iyo!!!. There was also wolf whistling and ogling of the whole body at the sight of a female-specie from the nearby schools especially if she was in a mini-skirt. Back in the lines, seniors grab the basketball of every freshman and passed it around from one corridor to the other. We made fun of everything-burping out loud farting loudest, depositing bubble-gum under the bleachers and so many more it would take volumes to list down. What took the cake was once in laboratory class, somebody came out with the bright idea to remove all the screws in the hinges of the door.

Lo and behold, when a teacher pulled the doorknob to open the door, the entire door fell all over him… he he!
Of course there was clean good fun too at the Glee Club where Mrs. Coloma, made us memorize and sing “Climb every mountain and Walk with faith in your heart.’ There was History, Religion sports and scouting. We had a backyard Gardeners Club which was promptly stopped when the authorities discovered that instead of flowers marijuana was being planted in the plots. So the four year stay was not at all naughty kid stuff as we endeavored and tried to pass all the subjects and requisites for graduation.

By the way, in our school album, I wrote in reply to the question: Ambition-To become a Priest. What happened? I was called but I was not chosen!!!. So one would think that after all the years, we would be discussing the benefits of our education, but I guess boys will be boys, and talk was about guns girls, booze, guns and of course the happy naughty four years at Boys High. As in all gatherings here and there, we paid tribute to the school and that banner by singing the “kabagbag-damadamin Slu Hymn. Character makes a man like the aing has an LSS-Last-song syndrome for 50 years now and ever. Sigh!!
