CITY LIBRARY NEEDS BIGGER BUILDING FOR MORE BOOKS, MORE READERS

BAGUIO CITY

The Baguio City Public Library needs a bigger building to accommodate more books. City Library head Easter Pablo made this announcement this week as they find the present building “too small” limiting the volume of books that they could provide to the reading public and researcher. “We need more materials like on Baguio’s history,” she
said during a press conference on family Wednesday which she hosted. Speaking live through the Public Information Office, Pablo said that the present structure is “cramped”.

She also said that a discussion room is needed to cater to needs of students. At least 150 student/ researchers visit the public library daily, said Pablo, who was named Public Librarian of the Year Award during the 6th Association of Librarians in Public Sector, Inc. (ALPS) National Convention Award and Fellowship Night last May 23 at the 456 Hotel. Pablo, who last July was commended by the City Council, said that the library holds at least 20,000 titles including researches from local universities.

A fiction section that include young adults have been added attracting more readers to its wall. However, the need for space has forced them to request that the space utilized as park by barangay Burnham Legarda-Kisad be instead
added to the library’s lot. “We need funding to put up a bigger structure,” she said. The public library also has computers and internet so reader or students could make use of the internet for their research. They also host a program on reading posted live on their page using cellphones.
