Communist rebels yield rifles in Ilocos Norte

BAGUIO CITY (February 10, 2022) – Government forces composed of the Ilocos Norte Provincial Police and the Philippine Army’s 24th Infantry Battalion facilitated the surrender of at least four female communist rebels at the Marcos and Carasi town police stations on Monday.
Lt. Gen. Ernesto Torres Jr., commander of the Northern Luzon Command, said the military’s continuous conduct of community support programs and information drives regarding the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) urged the four to formally return to the folds of the law. 
Joint Task Group Defender Commander Brig. Gen. Krishnamurti Mortela identified the four female personalities as “Ligaya”, “Teresa”, “Elvie” and “Marinel” who also surrendered an M14 rifle; a US Remington Model 03-03 rifle and a homemade shotgun.
“Ligaya, a native of Pidigan, Abra who now lives in Marcos, Ilocos Norte bared she was a trained with weapons by the NPA.  She surrendered a shotgun locally known as “baggor” at the Marcos town hall while “Teresa” and “Elvie” both natives of Ilocos Norte were trained paramedics of the rebels.
“Teresa” and “Elvie” surrendered with “Marinel” at the Carasi town police.
The four female rebels claimed before authorities that they were recruited during the era of former rebel-priest Conrado Balweg of Abra but went on lie-low.
Meanwhile,  Cordillera policemen seized an abandoned rebel camp and found war materiel in Kalinga on Wednesday.
Police operatives from the Kalinga Provincial Mobile Force, police intelligence operatives and Special Action Force recovered the encampment along with five pieces of 40 mm cartridge; six rifle grenade with canister; 19 electrical blasting caps; two dynamite gel; 22 meters electrical wire; and two detonator battery packs.
Rebel documents and other personal belongings & accouterments were also taken by the authorities.
