Cong. Yap seeks funding for Olympic size swimming pool

An Olympic size swimming pool is being eyed inside the Benguet Sports Complex. Benguet Rep. Eric Go Yap bared he is currently working with the Department of Public Works and Highways – Benguet Engineering District 1 for the costing of the proposed Olympic standard swimming pool.
“As of now, nag estimate pa rin ang DPWH so kung magkano man yan gagawan natin ng paraan para maipasok sa 2022 budget,” said Yap.
Yap told reporters these are just some of the few improvements inside the sports complex as he wants the province to be able to host future regional and national sporting events.
The solon also assured that the construction of the swimming pool will be supervised by individuals with technical know-how to make sure the required international standards of measurements of the sports facilities will be followed.
The sports complex, located in Wangal, La Trinidad, is currently undergoing massive rehabilitation with the installation of a rubberized tartan track, bleachers and other facilities with a funding of P165 million included in the national budget of 2021.
Yap added once the rehabilitation of the athletic oval and the construction of the Olympic size swimming pool is complete, the province can
now host sporting events like CARAA including the Palarong Pambansa. “Pangarap ko talaga na makapag host tayo ng Palarong Pambansa.
So in order para makuha natin, syempre dapat kaaya – aya yung lugar,” added Yap. Last week, Yap, with Benguet Governor Melchor Diclas, Vice Gov. Johnny Wagis and officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways led the inauguration of the basketball gymnasium inside the sports complex.
Improvements will still be needed though according to Yap who is looking for additional funding to further enhance the gym that will be at par with other gymnasiums around the world particularly those used in the NBA.
Yap is also optimistic the on – going rehabilitation and upgrading of the sports complex will be completed by March 2022. “I trust the DPWH na yung nakalagay na March 2022 deadline e mameet nila yun,” said Yap.
