TABUK CITY, Kalinga- Consultation has started recently for the P4.1 million Pasayak Diversion Dam that is aimed to irrigate farms in this city. The irrigation project, which is English for the Iloko word “pasayak”, hopes to help farmers from Laya East of this city, said personnel from the Office for the City Agricultural Services (OFCAS) and the Department of Agriculture- Cordillera (DA CAR) during the consultation with members of Farmer’s Association (FA) – Laya East regarding the installation of the said dam.
OFCAS Chief Julibert Aquino said “Isu nga pasayak ta iti Ilocano ti irrigation ket pasayak (That is why it is pasayak because it means irrigation).”
He said that funding from the dam’s construction will be coming from DA-CAR. He added that a 400 meter canal lining will also be constructed to protect the lands surrounding the dam.
After the consultation, OFCAS, DA-CAR and members of the Laya East FA inspected the construction site. Members of the FA expressed their gratitude and said the dam will be an immense help to the farmers and they vowed to take great care of it.
