World Sikaran Brotherhood of the Philippines
BAGUIO CITY
Sikaran, a traditional Filipino martial art originated in the Philippines long before the Spanish conquest and was
developed by indigenous tribes as self-defense, has been giving pride and honor to the country. To live the honor, the
officers and men of the World Sikaran Brotherhood of the Philippines- Cordillera Regional Chapter, together with its
Baguio and Benguet groups are embarking a renewed era, emboldened with selfless desire and solid commitment. World Sikaran Brotherhood of the Philippines, duly organized as National Sports Association (NSA), is recognized by the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and the state-run Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).
The Cordillera regional chapter, composed of former national champions in the said sports are focused in enhancing grassroots development of the sports and plan to conduct a regionwide trainors training. The regional chapter is
headed Engr. Joel Kiblasan , 7th degree black belter; and his group composed of Bonifacio Palitangan Bibal, 6th degree black belter ( Puliwes Sikaran Chapter); Roger Orpina, 5th degree black belter and two-time national
champion (representing Cordillera) of (San Pascual Sikaran Chapter), Tuba, Benguet; Franscico Hulanio, 5th degree black belter of Tuba Central School Sikaran; Shiela Cabaltera of Philex Mines Sikaran; and Salaknib Sikaran Chapter in La Trinidad, Benguet.
The local Sikaran group is hopeful to have a pool of players for selection in the forthcoming Sikaran world competition to be held in New York, USA this November. The group intend to meet regional officials of the education department (DepEd) with the goal of propagating the sports of Sikaran, aimed at instilling sportsmanship, discipline, character building , a form of physical education, and keep the youth away from illegal drugs.
