CORDILLERA’S INFLATION RATE IN JANUARY 2025 UP BY 4.1 PERCENT

Inflation rate for the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) in January 2025 was posted at 4.1 percent for all income households, an increase from the December 2024 inflation rate of 3.3 percent, according to Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). In the whole country, inflation rate for January 2025 was 2.9 percent , the same record posted in December 2024.

In the Cordilleras, housing,water,electricity, gas and other fuels were the main sources of acceleration of the January 2025 inflation, based on the recent presentation of Regional Director Villafe P. Alibuyog of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – RSSO CAR, along with Chief Statistical Specialist Aldrin Federico Bahit, Jr. and other officials of the said agency.

In summary, Abra had the highest inflation rate at 6.9 percent up from 5.1 percent in December 2024, mainly because of higher food, transport, and utility costs. Apayao has the lowest inflation rate in the region at -0.6 percent followed by Ifugao with 2.9 percent of the same period (January 2025).

Rounding up , Baguio City has 4.4 percent inflation rate, higher than Benguet with 3.0 percent, Mountain Province 5.7 percent while Kalinga 5.0 percent. Comparatively, with CAR’s January 2025 inflation rate (4.1 percent), seven other regions posted high inflation rates to include –Region 2 Cagayan Valley ( 5.1) Region 3-Central Luzon (3.4) ; Region 5 Bicol Region ( 3.2) ; Region 6 Western Visayas (3.6) ; Region 9 (2.9); Region 10 (2.9) and BARMM (1.6).

The other sIx regions that posted low inflation rates include Regions 4A, MIMAROPA, Central Visayas, Davao Region, SOCCSSSKSRGEN AND CARAGA while Ilocos Region and Eastern Visayas recorded constant inflation rates. PSA-CAR officials explained that data presented shall help people understand the region’s economy and guide local government units (LGUs) in formulating policies.
