Dog friendly park to rise in Bayan Park with P15M fund

A much neglected lesser known park here will get a P15 million face-lift soon and dog owners will have a place to bring their pet as this park will be the first dog friendly park in the city.
After city councilors last August 3 had the money realigned for Bayan Park, found at the middle of one of the most populated communities here will get the much needed upgrade, assistant City Environments Park Management Officer Rhenan Diwas said they can now pursue the upgrade of the park.
“We can now pursue the development of the park that will include facilities for dogs like waste receptacles,” said Diwas of the park that was once managed by the 13 Aurora Hill barangays. “It will be the very first park in the city that will be dog-friendly.
Dog owners can now jog or walk with their pets inside the park,” Diwas told reporters during the Ugnayan last Wednesday at the Baguio City Hall multi-purpose hall. He said that they cannot do the same with Burnham Park which for now must cater to Baguio folks most forced to stay home during the more than six months of community quarantine.
The city eased up on quarantine rules last Tuesday, during the 11th Charter Day celebration, and allowed visitation at the park that would at least distress residents who have been cooped up since March 17 to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
“But then we should observe social distancing. See to it that there will be one person per 40 square meter,” said Diwas, who stressed that the city are now looking also at the mental state of its residents.
