After a week of providing health services, the Department of Health (DOH) – Ilocos Region together with Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center and Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center successfully concluded its health and medical mission in various communities
devastated by the recent Typhoon “Egay” which caused flash floods and destroyed homes and infrastructures in the province of Ilocos Norte which has been in a state of calamity.
Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco said that the deployment of medical personnel including doctors, nurses, dentists started last July 29, 2023 up to August 3, 2023. “We have immediately
dispatch three medical teams to serve the heath needs of our kababayans affected by typhoon Egay and ensure that they are fit and healthy amidst their current situation.”
“Kailangan nating masiguro na lahat ng mga pamilyang apektado ng kalamidad ay mabigyan ng serbisyong pangkalusugan upang sila ay hindi magkasakit at mabigyan din ng mga maintenance medicines ang mga nangangailangan at magkaroon sila ng sapat na supply upang hindi sila mahinto sa pag-inom ng kanilang mga kinakailangang gamot.”
The regional office medical teams provided medical consultations, dental check-up/ tooth extraction, nutritional health assessment, pregnant/ lactating mothers health assessment, mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), water sanitation and hygiene (WASH), laboratory and disinfection of drinking water. Dental kits, breastfeeding kits and jerry cans or plastic water containers were also distributed to families including assorted medicines and multivitamins.
Among the LGUs served were Dingras, Marcos, Sarrat, Solsona, Carasi, Piddig, Paoay, Currimao, Pinili, San Nicolas and Batac City. Sydiongco encourage residents to safeguard their health, and stay alert during calamities for their well-being and that of their family. “Ang kalusugan natin at ng ating pamilya ay napakaimportante dahil ito ang sandigan ng isang malusog at progresibong
komunidad.”
