DPWH-Benguet 1 ready for Lakbay Alalay ‘19

In the observance of the Lenten Season, a special period of reflection, fasting, and penance practiced by Christians in preparation for Easter, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Benguet First Engineering District reactivated its Lakbay Alalay Program to assist motorists as they travel back home.
Benguet First Engineering District head Ireneo Gallato, said that starting on Wednesday, April 16,2019, his agency will station Motorist Assistance Centers in five major road networks: Kennon Road; Marcos Highway; Quirino Highway (Naguilian Road); Asin-Nangalisan Road; and Baguio-Nueva Viscaya Road to last until April 20, 2019.
Earlier, through a memorandum issued to all implementing offices of the Department, DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar directed field personnel to conduct inspection and ensure that all major routes are free from potholes, equipped with reflectorized pavement markings, and installed with warning signage that are within clear and safe distance of all ongoing construction projects.
According to District Enginner Gallato, Lakbay Alalay teams will be available on a round-theclock shift along major road networks in their area of responsibility (AOR) to assist travelers, pedestrians, as well as domestic and foreign tourists this Lenten break.
Gallato said each Lakbay Alalay Center will be manned by five personnel to include mechanics ready with equipment and service vehicles on stand-by at thoroughfares where influx of motorists is expected, and shall coordinate with other DPWH-Cordillera Lakbay Teams, Cordillera Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council (CDRRMC) and its local counterparts, Land Transportation Office (LTO), Philippine National Police (PNP), local government units (LGUs), and other concerned agencies for any necessary assistance they may provide.
