Environmental protection program ilulunsad sa Basista, Pangasinan

BASISTA, Pangasinan – Ilulunsad ng Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) sa Pangasinan sa susunod na buwan ang “Tayo ang Kalikasan” (TAK) advocacy program upang mahikayat ang mga Pangasinense na makibahagi sa pangangalaga ng kalikasan at sa pagpapanatili nito.
“TAK means that we as citizens should be involved in preserving and protecting our environment. It encourages people’s cooperation with the government,” ani Banny Gamo, development management officer ng PENRO-Pangasinan, sa isang panayam.
Binigyang diin ni Gamo na bilang mga mamamayan, “we should not think that we are apart from the environment as we are actually part of nature and that we should ask what we can contribute for the betterment of the environment.”
Kabilang sa programa ang cleanup drives, waste segregation, and tree-planting activities, at iba pa.
Sinabi ni Gamo na napili ang bayan ng Basista bilang pilot area para sa programa dahil sa pinakamahusay nitong kaugalian sa pangangalaga at pagpapanatili sa kapaligiran.
“Basista has best practices, like in their solid waste management that can be adapted by other local government units (LGUs) in the province,” aniya.
Samantala, maliban sa TAK, ang PENRO-Pangasinan ay ipapatupad din ang “Rivers for Life” program kaalinsabay ng rehabilitasyon ng Manila Bay.
“We have chosen Alaminos River in Alaminos City for the Rivers for Life. In this program, we will rehabilitate the body of water to zero its pollution,” ani Gamo.
ubalit ipinaalala ni Gamo na ang river systems sa Pangasinan ay hindi kasing-dumi ng mga nasa “urbanized provinces” na may mas maraming industriya.
“But we will not wait for the rivers to be polluted before we act on it,” ani Gamo.
Sinabi pa niya na ipinapatupad din nila ang Coastal Watch para matukoy ang mga industriya at imprastruktura na lumalabag sa batas.
