The Fiesta Kucha Tumalugading Arts Festival held on November 30, 2023, at the La Union Convention Center was a resounding success, showcasing the collaborative efforts of various artistic and cultural organizations. Tumalugading attracted a diverse audience including artists, vloggers, and enthusiasts, highlighting its inclusivity in creativity.
The event, organized by the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), through La Union Provincial Tourism Office-Culture and Arts Unit (LUPTO-CAU), GAMENG-La Union Creatives Industry Association (LUCIA), and the Department of Trade and Industry-La Union (DTI-La Union), celebrated the rich artistic tapestry of the province.
The festivities began with a symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Board Member Cynthia Angelica Bacurnay, Committee Chair on Culture and Education; DTI Provincial Director Merlie Membrere; Ms. Darlene Joy A. Buccat, LUPTOCulture and Arts Unit Head; GAMENG-LUCIA President, Engr. Dexter “Kuyadong” Macaso; Resource Speakers, Engr. Jeanne Dugui-es Dangkeo, Mr. Alvin Malicdem, and Mr. Jerich Calderon; Local Historian, Dr. Adriel Obar Meimban; and ATIN-LU President, Mr. Xavier Mercado.
BM Bacurnay conveyed Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David’s message, expressing gratitude for the world-class talents and creativity of her Kaprobinsiaan in La Union. “Lubos na po akong humahanga at bumibilib sa inyong pagpapamalas ng galing, husay at dedikasyon sa visual arts, disenyo at iba pa gayundin ang inyong pag-express ng inyong sarili sa pamamagitan ng sining. Kaya ipagpatuloy pa ninyo ang inyong passion at pagdevelop sa talentong mayroon kayo.
Makakaasa po kayong dito sa La Union, malaya niyo pong ma-develop ang inyong talent at creativity dahil naniniwala akong napaka-vibrant ang creative industry natin dito,” the Governor
expressed through BM Bacurnay. The festival featured different activities, including exhibits, local delicacies, and informative sessions on Intellectual Property Rights, Artificial Intelligence trends, and branding and marketing for Creative Humans. Local artists and groups also performed during the said activity.
Tumalugading’s success was measured not just by artistic displays but also by the connections formed and the sense of community it fostered reflecting #LaUnionPROBINSYAnihan. The festival, signifies La Union’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage and providing a platform for diverse creative expression.
