How knowledgeable are you about segregation in Solid Waste Management? How can you help in solving our garbage problems? There is now an ordinance in La Trinidad, Benguet that might help us lessen our garbage and be disciplined in segregating wastes.

“Requiring the Installation of Garbage Receptacles inside Public Utility Vehicles plying the Jurisdiction of the Municipality of La Trinidad, Benguet and Providing Penalty for Violation thereof” is an ordinance authored by La Trinidad Councilor Roderick Awingan. This ordinance is expected to educate the public on proper segregation of biodegradable from non-biodegradable trash, especially now that Cell 3’s Sanitary Landfill at Brgy. Alno is projected to be chock-full before the end of this year.

The august body suggested for color coding: yellow for non-biodegradable and green for biodegradable. It will be good to also add a corresponding sign that people will understand immediately. The Sangguniang Bayan said this will help the “No Littering Ordinance” and “No Plastic Ordinance” in the Municipality of La Trinidad. However, a strict implementation of these three complimenting ordinances is a must, without the exemption of prominent personalities or officials of the government.

Mga Kadungngo-dungngo, maganda ang ordinansang ito kung sana lang ay lahat ng munisipyo ng Benguet pati ang kalapit na mga probinsya at siyudad nito ay sumunod sa yapak na ito. Pero hindi ba mas maganda kung pati sa loob ng bahay ay may ganito? Ano sa tingin niyo mga Dungngo? Hindi ba’t mas maganda, maayos at malinis kung may “Garbage Receptacles Color Coding” sa loob ng tahanan natin. Yellow para sa hindi nabubulok (anything made of plastic), green para sa nabubulok, at blue para sa hindi nabubulok na tulad ng metal, ceramics, glass. Upang ang ating mga basurero ay hindi mahirapang maghiwalay ng nabubulok at hindi nabubulok.

Nakakainis minsan ang katotohanan ano mga Kadungngo-dungngo, na ang madalas naman talagang hindi marunong sumunod sa ordinansa ay ang mga nasa boarding houses. Pero hindi po natin nilalahat. Ngunit biruin mo yun mga Dungngo na ang mga taong edukado, nag-aaral at may mga trabaho ay sila pa ang matigas ang ulo. Sana naman ang mga nagpapaupahan kung maaari lang po ay bigyan ng paalala at i-check lang kung maaari ang basura ng inyong mga boarders upang makatulong po tayo na mabawasan ang lumalalang problema sa basura.

Kaya saludo ako sa may-ari ng Rosemarie Transient Home sa Bakakeng Norte, Sarok Camp 7 at Carantes Compound, Camp 7 Baguio City na si Madam Myrna Cong-o dahil ang disiplina sa kalinisan at kalusugan ang kanyang pinakatatandaan. Kaya sa mga gustong dito sa Baguio ang long weekend niyo sa Aug. 28, holiday po ‘yan, dyan po pwede kayong mag-transient at mag-unwind.
