LA TRINIDAD, BENGUET
Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas revealed that a total of 3,160 individuals from the different municipalities in Benguet have received payouts totaling P12,640,000.00 in 2023. The beneficiaries, who are indigent residents of the province, participated in the Cash-for-Work program, a collaboration between the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office
CAR and the Provincial Government of Benguet through the DSWD-PLGU Partnership Project: Risk Resiliency Project – Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation-Disaster Reduction (RRP-CCAM-DRR).
Under the program, the beneficiaries worked for 10 days on different tasks contributing to the Risk Resiliency Program (RRP) which is an initiative adopted by the Climate Change Adaptation, Mitigation, and Disaster Risk Reduction Cabinet Cluster (CCAM-DRR Cluster). The CCAM-DRR Cluster, led by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), serves as a mechanism for coordination among government departments in achieving the national vision for
climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction.
The beneficiaries received 100% of the Regional Daily Minimum Wage set by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). According to the Benguet Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO), the tasks of the beneficiaries included the establishment of hedgerows and
wattling, seedling propagation and production, tree planting, rehabilitation of drainage canals,
clearing, desilting of waterways, and the establishment of communal gardens (Gulayan sa Paaralan). Governor Diclas expressed his gratitude to DSWD for the successful oversight of the RRP and its processes, and for ensuring the transfer of funds to the beneficiaries.
He also thanked the BENRO headed by Julius Kollin for the smooth implementation of the project
through collaborative efforts. The Governor emphasized the significant impact of the project in promoting risk resiliency in the province. In July, the Provincial Government of Benguet and the
DSWD formalized their commitment through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the RRP through Cash for Work. The agreement covers the years 2023, 2024, and 2025.
