INC backs Avila for Mayor

A religious sect known for bloc voting have made known its decision on who to support in the fight for the city’s mayoral seat. Incumbent Councilor Edgar Avila on Monday thanked the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) leadership for backing him and the other candidates on his ticket under the Hugpong Ng Pagbabago-United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) and Timpuyog ti Baguio coalition.
“Maraming, maraming salamat po sa Iglesia ni Cristo under the leadership of Kapatid na Eduardo V. Manalo,
Tagapamahalang Pangkalahatan ng Iglesia Ni Cristo for your manifestation of support and for being one in our quest to make the city a place in the hearts and minds of our people,” Avila said in a statement posted on his social media (Facebook) account.
“I am appreciative and happy that the Iglesia ni Cristo is one with us in our vision of good governance and a goal to make it self-sufficient, economically stable and more reliant on its human resources.
Rest assured that I will push for everyone’s welfare and rights in the city by continuing the good programs of the present administration and improving the programs on education, disaster preparedness health and livelihood,” he said.
In the previous elections in 2016, INC backed Avila when he emerged on top of the Council slate with an estimated 54,400 votes giving him a mandate of more than 50% of those who cast their
votes in the poll.
Avila also scored endorsements from the AASENSO party list and the Grace Guardians for his bid to become the summer capital’s Chief Executive.
