Incentives and benefits of child development worker

The National Day Care Worker’s Week is celebrated every June 7 under proclamation No. 404 series of 2003 in accordance with the provisions of the Local Government Code of 1991 to recognize the contribution of our Day Care Workers providing substitute parental care and early childhood education to our children. It is only fitting to grant exemplary and qualified incentives and other benefits that will recognize their vital role and responsibility in moulding our children and fostering their early education.

Day care workers, now known as child development workers, need to have incentives and benefits such as Phil-Health Insurance in which all registered Child Development Workers shall be enrolled in the National Health Insurance Program for the premium contribution shall be carried by the city government. Another one is the medical examination and dental benefits in any hospital owned and managed by the city shall provide free of charge to all registered child development workers while in dental, CDW shall be entitled 50 percent discount to remaining balance on all charges in any government-owned hospital and operated by the city as well. Free legal assistance and consultation services shall likewise be available for all registered CDWs. Then the last one, the loyalty incentives, a CDW who rendered cumulative service for the following number of years: for 10 years of service, P1,000 will be received; For 20 years, P2,000; for 30 years, P3,000; and 40 years, P4,000 and shall be respectively entitled to a certificate of recognition signed by the city mayor and the city social welfare and development officer (CSWDO). This city ordinance gets appropriation of fund from the city finance committee.

City Councilor Lilia A. Farinas said that “this proposed ordinance is to acknowledge the efforts of our CDW on being the teacher, 2nd mother, and guardian to our children. This will encourage them more to work with patience for it is not easy handling children.”

Most of the child development workers not only in the city of Baguio but also the province of Benguet are in great need of the following materials: school supplies, toys and story books for kids. What a joy to know that most of them are not after money but more on how to teach the next generation of our Nation. But surely it is better to have something than nothing at all and for that we should be thankful.

In the Bible (KJV) Matthew 7:7, “Ask and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock and it shall be opened unto you.” For if we only accept what we see, what we hear from others, and what we already know, we won’t be able to move forward.
