Inmates’ creativity generate funds for city jail project

BAGUIO CITY – A lantern for a cause was conducted by the persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) to reform and provide for their families while inside the jail facility and to acquire funds for the improvement of their multi-purpose hall of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology male dormitories here. 
City Jail Warden Chief, Insp. Crispin Dornagon, said with the theme “Parol ng Pagbabago”, a total of 128 small lanterns initially being exhibited by the inmates to be sold at P500 each for the 128 barangays in the city.
Dornagon said, before the exhibit, they invited the 128 punong barangays to help them generate funds for the projects inside the city jail.
He said, “All proceeds that will be generated from the lantern exhibit will be used for improvement of our multi-purpose hall, we want to make it soundproof and centralized.”
Aside from small lanterns, there are 28 big lanterns hung outside the cells ranging from P500 to P1,000 mostly made of bamboo sticks, tire wires, pieces of papers, plastic bottles and other recyclable materials.
He narrated that through their newly developed skills, many inmates have discovered their potentials and developed a sense of purpose.
”We have provided creativity training for them so we can assure that they will produce good and quality items.” Dornagon added.
He invited the public to visit the city jail and see the Christmas products produced by PDLs and other souvenir items and help them to provide funds for their families while inside the jail facility. ZALDY COMANDA / ABN
