Installation of “I LOVE BAGUIO” signages in public places requested

Councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda in a resolution has requested the city government to put up “I Love Baguio” signages in public parks and tourism sites in the city. According to Tabanda, the Baguio signage or “I LOVE BAGUIO” sign will constantly remind the visitors of the picturesque places they have visited in Baguio, adding that many local government units have already put up similar signages in their respective tourist spots.
She stated that the city’s cool climate, scenic spots, and warm people have caught the interest of local and foreign tourists making it a prime tourist destination. Visitors take pictures in these tourist spots in order to keep the happy memories of Baguio during their visit, she furthered.
The councilor stated that through these pictures and videos, tourists will be able to remember their stay in the city. However, she observed that signages identifying the city’s tourist destinations as such are missing.
These signages would also depict the rich heritage of Baguio and/or its people, she asserted. The resolution co-authored by Councilor Elaine Sembrano and approved by all council members
has been forwarded to the City Mayor’s Office to be signed by the chief executive.
In 2019, Sembrano also proposed an ordinance tasking the City Administrator’s Office through the Tourism and Special Events Division to provide for the design of the city’s tourism brand and to install tourism branding markers to serve as new tourism landmarks in the city. An amount of PHP 200,000.00 or so much thereof was proposed to be appropriated for the purpose.
The ordinance stated that schools in the city as well as the public and private sector’s expertise may be tapped for the creation of the design. Such prototype design of the tourism brand shall first be presented to the City Mayor and the city council for review and approval.
The proposed ordinance has been approved on first reading but has been pending before the Sanggunian’s Committee on Tourism, Special Events, Parks, and Playgrounds.
