SABLAN, Benguet
Itogon came here with its guns all ablaze, while powerhouse Sablan showed a rival who the master is as Cong. Eric Go Yap Benguet Women’s Volleyball League moves to the Sablan Municipal gym last Sunday. Itogon vented its ire on a hapless Bakun for a 25-3, 25-14, 25-13 victory in the first of five scheduled games. Then the final saw Sablan deal La Trinidad a 25-16, 25-18, 29-27 beating to show who the master is in the three weeks tournament presented by Rep. Yap, the ACT – CIS Partylist, the office of Gov. Melchor Diclas and the Media for Sports Development.
Itogon was reeling from a defaulted games when most of its players failed to show at the Benguet Sports Complex a
minute after the defaulting time of 15 minutes. In its wrath, Itogon needed just 48 minutes to crush the will of its opponent including the shortest time for a set at just 10 minutes and three allowed points. “That was really
frustrating and the girls were pretty angry themselves to miss out of beating the time,” said Coach Oliver Jimenez of the defaulted game last Sunday. “It was miscommunication on where they will meet to be picked up and transported to the venue and they failed to consider the traffic in Trinidad,” added Jimenez.
Jasmyne Polon and Sheryl Estal proved as the 1-2 punch for the Gov. Diclas Cup champion as they scored 22 and
12 points, respectively as Sablan won its third game in 72 minutes of action. Polon did the yeoman;s task as she scored on 16 attacks, five aces and a block to power Sablan past one of the stronger teams in the league. Estal, on the
other hand, had 11 attacks and a service ace in the game. Hannah Dumpit added eight markers for Sablan on six
attacks, one service ace and a block.
“The team is not yet complete, we need the others who are not yet with us and we need to practice more, together,”
said Coach Edrix Sofla after the game in front of their townsmates led by mayor Alfredo Dacumos, Jr. “It’s a tough road yet, we need to see the other strong teams and we know we will be competing against,” said Polon, the most valuable player in the last Baguio Benguet Educational Athletic League where her Baguio College of Technology defeated the University of Baguio for the title.
She added that Kapangan and Itogon are the team to beats in the league. Stephanie Torres led La Trinidad with 14 points – 11 attacks and three block points, while Edrylle Nunez had 10 points on nine attacks and a single service ace. Trinidad fell to 2-1. In other games, Radinka Dumawor scored 19 points, 16 on attacks and three service aces, to lead the squad to its second win by beating new comer Kabayan, 25-8, 25-5, 25- 12, in just 42 minutes. Tuba joins the idle
Kapangan at second place with a 2-0 win-loss card.
Buguias cruised to its first win beating Bokod in four sets, 25-18, 25-20, 22-25, 25-14, thanks to Desiree Joy Banih and Geneveb Buyagan who scored 15 points each. Mankayan nipped Atok 30- 28, 25-23, 26-24 in a one hour and 48 minutes contest.
